TLC Clinique-Follicular Unit Extraction

FUE procedure at TLC Clinique has following unmatched benefits:

• Minimally invasive procedure

• Performed under local anaesthesia so no pain during the procedure

• No need of any cuts, staples or stitches

• Minimal or no discomfort after surgery

• No hospitalization is required and patient is discharged on the same day

• In fact patient can even drive home just hours after the procedure

• Does not leave any ugly scar

• Donor area from where the hair is taken looks completely unaffected and unchanged

• Patient often resume work the next day of transplantation itself

• Patient can enjoy any kind of hairstyle including very short hairstyle as this transplant does not leave a linear scar

• Quick or very short recovery time

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. After ensuring that anaesthesia has done its job and patient is not feeling any pain, the skin around the hair follicle is cut using a punch. About one to four follicles can be removed in a single cut from the donor area at the same time. Some surgeons use advanced technology that allows removal of surrounding tissue along with hair graft by making shallow punches.

This is followed by making of small slits (cuts) in the recipient area to insert these extracted hair grafts. The slits are very small and do not need any kind of suturing. As no stitches are given to the area, it heals quickly and becomes completely undetectable after the growth of new hair in about seven to ten days.

In a single session of FUE a maximum of 3500 follicular units can be transplanted.

After FUE transplantation surgery, patient is required to follow the post-operative instructions for better outcome and recovery. These include:

• Compression bandage (if applied) around patient head should be kept clean and dry and must remain in place for a day

• To get relief from pain, swelling and discomfort of the surgery patient should take all the medications prescribed by the surgeon

• For first 3 days after surgery patient’s head should be kept in semi-upright position with couple of pillows below head

• New grafts should not be touched or picked

• Avoid smoking and alcohol for as long as possible

• Patient should shampoo hair a couple of days after surgery, followed by daily washing for the first week after surgery

• Shower hair wash should be avoided for first few days

• Donor hair area must be kept clean to prevent crusts forming and scarring

• Avoid strenuous activities like sport or exercise, leaning forward or blowing nose violently for the first week after surgery

• Avoid sun exposure and always wear a hat while going out in the sun

The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. After ensuring that anaesthesia has done its job and patient is not feeling any pain, the skin around the hair follicle is cut using a punch. As no stitches are given to the area, it heals quickly and becomes completely undetectable after the growth of new hair in about seven to ten days. In a single session of FUE a maximum of 3500 follicular units can be transplanted.

After the procedure, patient may observe following over the surgical area:

• Pink, tight or itchy scalp (is normal)

• Formation of crust or small scabs over the implantation area that will fall off on its own in a few days’ time

• Newly transplanted hair will start appearing after healing of the area. But these hairs will shed. This shedding is normal reaction.

• After this shedding happens, the transplanted hair grafts will start to grow new hair. Now these new hair will follow the normal hair growth/loss cycle. It may take around 6 months or so for the new hair to appear on the transplantation site.
